Japanese girl dies as taking Chinese slimming pills

Slimming capsules produced by a Guangzhou-based online sales company were blamed for the death of a Japanese girl, reported an official Japanese Web site.

The capsule was not sold in Guangzhou's pharmacies, said media reports. The company, registered as Yema Bio-health Co. Ltd., moved out of its office in a commercial building in Guangyuan Road a month ago.

It claimed to specialize in online sales of body shaping, healthcare, and cosmetics products and left two numbers on its Web site. Neither could be accessed.

The company was suspected of fabricating Health Ministry approved item numbers for the capsule and another aloe toxin expulsion capsule. The aloe capsule was listed among nine unqualified health products by Hunan’s food and drug administration in February.
