Why is registration necessary?

It is necessary because there are too many bad people sending virus or taking control of this computer to send out spam!

You are free to read all postings without registration. But you must
register if you wish to post a message in this Forum.

This is revised Oct 2006 wrote:

You do not have to use your real name, or even your real email
address. I require you to type something, in order to make it
harder for spammers to register using an automatic program.

Your registration is normally effective at once. You do not have to
wait for a confirmation email from me. In fact, I don't send one to you.
Just go [back] to the First Page, and scroll to its bottom.
You will see your name there as the newest member Very Happy .

Each year, the amount of spams posted increases unbelievably fast.
We are spending all day just to delete them.
We are forced to implement some changes hoping to at least reduce
the amount of time wasted to deal with this.

When you register, you must provide a valid email address. We then
send you an email with a code number. You must then respond to
this email, before we will activate your registration.

Normally, you will receive our notification within a few hours (or sooner).

It is hard to stop the spammers. It is hard to determine who is the bad guy.
I require everyone to give a valid email address, not because I
am collecting your email address for commercial purposes, but
only as a last resort to determine if you are you.

This is a real problem! Recently I caught nearly 100 bad guys a week!
I wasted a lot of time on this problem. And I am mad. I hope you will
sympathize with me.

I lived in the U.S., and the web site is hosted in the U.S. I observe the
Privacy Policy, which is published on this web site. I do not make one
cent and the entire cost of running of this web site is paid by me personally.

I don't normally like registering anything, hate getting all those junk mail & promotion materials. However, I fall with China the Beautiful, the subjects and contents of this site is where my heart is. It's just give and take, fair.

Dear all:

I am forced to institute a registration process in order to cut down
on the volume of junk mail people who came here to do their
dirty work. Still, I wasted a lot of my time trying to purge these
people.

During the last 12 years, I have never send one single email to
anyone who registers here. I do not encourage anyone else to
send email via this Forum.

Finally, for those who only want to read (but not post) messages,
registration is not required.

I do appreciate and hope that you will register and participate by
posting to this Forum. This Forum is for you - and not just a
personal 'blog'. The success of the Forum depends on as many
friends who can and will help and answer questions from others.
