I would like to know about the "stamp" that is used by calligraphers and artists to sign their stuff.

It's something like the avatar from Aolung, or in this site, the red marks

I don't know the name used for this personal sign, maybe someone could help me to know the name and i would like to know also how these signatures are made. Which criteria is used to compose and create them, is it the name of the artist? the lastname? well, that's it!!
hope someone can answer these questions, thanks a lot!
