I am new to the forum, so "hello" to everyone.

I wanted to share with you few of my calligraphy works.
(some are not stamped yet, I usually do it before framing)

Oh and one more thing, I study 書法 in Japan, thus some phrases can be Japanese (if so I am attaching Chinese equivalents). Nonetheless I learn from Chinese classics every day so I hope you wont banish me Very Happy

情熱 (Chinese:热情) passion

嶺上雲 mountain peak above the clouds

佛 Buddha

道 a path

竹 bamboo

勢 power, momentum

HI,

It's up to you. Do you wish to be known as Tears of Dragon or your
real name?

Either way, how do you wish to have your name written in Chinese?

My real name is Piotr Ponte-Sypniewski (Polish)

As to the pen name I do not really mind. Either way it is fine. All I care about is calligraphy, the rest is irrelevant. So please go ahead and change it to Long Lei if you wish.

Piotr,

Welcome to the site. You are doing great as a Polish. If I may just comment a bit, dry brush ("fei bai" literally flying blank) shows dynamics of calligraphy. But it is only used to fit the occasion. Go through the history of calligraphy and find out which style you like best. You may visit my site which is the first about Chinese calligraphy on the Internet, since 1994.

Thank you very much for your kind comment and advise. I have already visited your site many times before I decided to post few of my works here. It is great to have people like you sharing their experience and knowledge with us. Thank you.

As to the fei bai, this is exactly what my teacher says ^_^. He is really strict. I am an expressive person and it is very difficult for me to bottle up all those emotions. Perhaps it is also because the aesthetics of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy differ so despite hours spent on copying Chinese masterpieces I am influenced by Japanese calligraphy. In the future I will come to China once and study this art where it has all begun. Perhaps then I will be ready to pursue my own style.

The style I like the best? Now that is a one difficult question. I find li shu very soothing and rhythmical. The technique of reverse brush puts me in meditative state. Then again i find kai shu extremely challenging as there is not much room for expressing oneself freely as in cursive scripts, as well it gives very little room for error. I love zhuan shu but I study calligraphy only for 8 years so I have just slowly begun to learn seal script. I would like to specialize in zhuan shu in the future.

Dear Long Lei:

Piotr Ponte-Sypniewski is simply too long and difficult for the Chinese!
So I would suggest that you use Long Lei as your pen name for
your Chinese readers.

haha, well you have asked for it . Believe me it is even too long for me. Long Lei it is. In fact, I prefer the Chinese pronunciation of my pen name. It has a nice flowing ring to it.

I forgot to mention that occasionally I try ink painting, I really enjoy it though must find more time to study it properly. Nonetheless I am pasting one of them.

edit: there is no calligraphy on it as at first I have trashed it (this is why it is so crumpled) and then I changed my mind and salvaged it from a pile of used Xuan paper...
