It is strange that for the whole day, there is like nothing happening on the opening day of Olympic. Instead of news on Olympic, NBC is showing all the soap operas, gossip talk shows.

No picture of Bush in Beijing. No interview of American athletes. Like nothing is happening.

We in the United States finally got to see the grand
opening of the Olympics. It is out of this world.

It is not only the best in history, but many people
believe that it will never be equaled in the future.

I hope that parts of it will be shown again for those
who missed.

In the meantime, here are a few pictures for you to enjoy

I will try to post additional stories. Stay tuned!

Yes, I have made quite a lot of complaints about the delayed broadcast.
Now NBC is kind of apologizing, putting a statement on the local channel that they will make the program available as they are.

I also commented on Asiawind forum that we should feel lucky that Spielberg turned down the invitation for directing the opening ceremony. It would have been a total failure with him and Zhang Yimou working together.

We are lucky, and Spielberg should be too.

There should be no excuse for featuring the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony live in the US. I believe the Sydney 2000 Olympics Opening Ceremony was shown live in the US despite Sydney time a further 2 hours earlier than Beijing time. Looks like NBC has some colour problem.

As for Steven Spielberg, he has compassion for the Darfur people but he does not seem to understand the spirit of Olympics, and sports as a whole. The origin of the Olympics is for excellence in sports when all warring states in Greece allowed the sports participants to pass through, irerspective of their political or religious affiliations. Sadly, Western nations are now so hypocritical and hell-bend on bringing up issues that do not concern the Olympics and sports. This is more so when some Americans, instead of accepting the warm friendship of China, keep on rejecting it. China has never been so friendly to the US as now.

The basis of Darfur and the desatbilisation by some Western countries is primarily not because of human rights but because of the oil in Darfur. If Darfur has no oil, then there will be no Western monetary and political support for the movement. Did the Western governments cry a tear for the Rwandan massacre? Unlike South Sudan, the Darfur people are Muslims, though non-Arabic, and they had long aligned themselves with Khartoum against the South Sudanese. Suddenly, with new found oil and new found financial support from the West, they have now woken up to claim some monetary interest in an independent Darfur. Alas, truly oil is both a blessing and a curse.
