|

Hi everyone,
I'm Joshua Glenn, new to the boards. I'll be participating from now on, primarily in the Language section (i'm learning... slowly!).
My question is... I would like to request that China the Beautiful link to my website, www.chineseinkdesign.com, which is a Chinese calligraphy search engine. While it is a commercial site, it can be freely used as a reference by anyone. I'm not exactly sure how I should go about this, but I would very much like the opportunity to participate with this website.
This search engine really is the first of its kind, you wont find a bigger Chinese calligraphy database anywhere.
My personal email is marketingcio@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Hi Josh,
Welcome to our web site. Your partipication will be good news.
We will watch with interest how your new web site will develop.
I just tried to log on, and could not connect.
I am not sure about your claim to being the biggest database
on the internet. Have you looked at the calligraphy section
of this website? Have you
looked at some of the major web sites?
As soon as the non-commercial part of your web site is developed,
I shall be happy to provide a link to it.
Gook luck.

Ming,
This is Joshua Glenn again... for some reason my account stopped working!
I am sorry about the link, I put a comma in at the end. The working link is:
www.chineseinkdesign.com
As for it's non-commercial uses, this link goes straight to the Chinese word calligraphy search engine:
http://www.chineseinkdesign.com/word_1_0.php
With this, anyone who might be unsure that their calligraphy artwork is legitimate could verify it on here for free. That will never change either... free reference for all. The premium memberships are only for people who want to download their characters with much greater size and detail. Basic registration is free too, so users can store their favorite characters and art.
Oh, and as far as the size of our database goes, I apoligize if I was being presumptuous. We do however have over half a million Chinese characters in the 5 major calligraphic styles... it took over 8 years to digitize the images, and it grows everyday!
I hope this new account doesnt flop... i'll talk to you and everyone on here soon!

I just wanted to also say... if you would prefer I pay for link space, that would be acceptable too!

Dear Joshua:
Sorry for not responding faster. I will write in more detail
as soon as I can.
It is not a question of charging a fee. I do not charge any fees,
and do not accept any advertisements or contributions.
I am usually very slow to link to commercial sites, or even
a sub-page within a commercial site. The reasons are many.
One of them is it takes too much time to monitor to insure
that the character of the site does not change and evolve.
So, allow me more time to consider.
One point which I note immediately is you use of the word
'calligraphy' which differs with my usage at this web site.
I make a big distinction between 'calligraphy' and 'computer font.'
They are two different things. You talk about
thousands of 'calligraphy'; which I would call just one set
of fonts. Certainly, bold-face fonts of English charactes
are not considered as English calligraphy. (I posted one
on this point recently.)
Again, many thanks for your postings. Please continue, and
I shall follow them up.

The same calligrapher who gave me those lessons also attracted a crowd of thousands and a TV crew as he created characters over 6-feet high. He happens to be ranked as one of the top 100 calligraphers in all of China. He is also one of very few that would actually attempt such a feat.
